On Saturday, August 1, 2009, the Freeze Project held one of its freezes at the Grove in Los Angeles, California. This was one of the earlier freezes, though events had already been held in Seattle, Washington; London, England; Santa Monica, Downtown Disney in Anaheim, Hollywood, San Diego, Irvine and Glendale all in California. The goal of the project on August 1 and of all subsequent projects was to bring awareness to the harsh realities of human slavery.
Participants in the project at the Grove were instructed to meet between 3rd Street and Fairfax at 12:30 p.m. They were to spend a few minutes discussing the project and instructions on how to participate before beginning the actual freeze at 1:00 p.m. The event was organized by Anthony Tigner.
